As a self care expert, I allow my days to have a rhythm that is not the same day in and day out. That actually is one of my forms of self care, giving my schedule flexibility. However there are certain anchors in my day that are non-negotiable, well at least 95% of the time.
I divide my day into six different sections. Everything from Wake Up to Bed Time is included in my rhythm. In each category, I have elements of what my ideal day would look like sprinkled throughout. Some days, I get lucky and feel like my day was a gluten-free cupcake with colored sprinkles on top, but some days are full of extracurricular events, plans, excursions. Whatever my day may turn out to be, I have three sprinkles that always bring me back to a place of feeling nourished and mindful.
For me, this takes on many different roles. It can be any of the following all on the same day, or only one of them.
In our house, we call it Lunch Time With Emily! As a side note, if I ever write a cookbook, it will be called this as well. :) Lunch is usually my biggest, and most important, meal of the day and when done mindfully, helps me combat afternoon sluggishness.
I adopted this practice about a year ago, and it has been incredible to witness my sleep patterns improve immensely. My phone is not the last thing I look at before I go to bed, or the first thing I look at when I wake up. My natural rhythms are in sync and I sleep soundly, most nights.
